Pennants Selection Policy

 

The Pennants Selectors will select teams that will give the Cronulla Men’s Bowling Club the best chance of achieving the best results in inter-club competitions.

 

Pennant Selection Panel

The Pennant Selection Panel will consist of a minimum of three (3) members of Cronulla Men’s Bowling Club.  Members of the panel may be current pennant players or former pennant players.

 

At the first meeting of the Pennant Selection Panel, one member of the panel will be elected as the contact person for the selectors.

 

That person is responsible for the coordination of the Selection Panel and must ensure that the panel undertakes the selection duties in accordance with the Pennant Selection Policy.

 

Initial duties of the selection panel

Team numbers and gradings

The number of Pennant teams and grades will be determined by:

  1. 1. the number of players nominated/available to play pennants
  2. 2. the previous seasons performance and gradings

 

The selectors will, as soon as it is practicable, review the nominated/available players for the coming season, the players current pennant grading and the previous season’s results.  Following the review of the above, the selectors will make a recommendation to the Men’s Bowling Committee of the number of teams and grades to participate in the coming season.

 

The event/s to which the Policy applies

The Pennants Selection Policy applies to the Pennant season (including pre-season Pennant trials) and the Kurranulla and Peninsular Cups.

 

Selection Panel Duties

The selection panel will be convened weekly to deal with selection matters.

The selectors’ contact person (or his delegate) is to be available to provide advice to the Men’s Bowling Club Committee as required.

 

 

Selector’s responsibilities – The selectors will make all their decisions in the best interest of the club and all selections will be without bias.  All decisions by the selectors must be transparent and accountable to ensure consistency and certainty in the selection process.

 

 

 

Selection criteria

All selections will be determined by:

 

  1. 1. Grading set by the zone and historical grading data
  2. 2. Performance within the team
  3. 3. Team harmony
  4. 4. Individual performance
  5. 5. Availability

 

All Pennant players are required to advise of their unavailability as soon as possible.  All planned absences are to be notified by completing details on the “Absentee List”.  The list is to be posted on the Pennants Notice Board.  All players are to record their own details on the list.  

 

 

Posting of team selections

During the Pennant season the team lists for the preceding week will be posted on the Pennants Notice Board each Monday by 5.00pm.

 

 

Player’s responsibilities

All selected players (including reserves) are expected to indicate their availability a soon as possible, but by no later that each Friday by 5.00pm.

 

Unavailable players are to note their unavailability by placing “N/A” next to their name on the Pennant Selection list as soon as possible.  Contact a selector by phone as soon as possible to assist with team finalisation.

 

 

Who to contact about issues

All Selectors are available to discuss Pennant Selection matters with any Pennant player.

 

The list of the current selection panel (appendix 1) is to be updated annually.  The list is to include the name of the panel members and their contact telephone numbers.

 

An appointment to meet and discuss Pennant Selection matters with the full panel can be organised by contacting the selectors’ contact person.

 

Policy Publication and Review

The Pennant Selection Policy is to be displayed on the Pennants Noticeboard.  The Policy is to be reviewed annually by the Men’s Bowling Committee.
